Civilian Crisis Management Training
The Egmont Institute is an active partner of the Belgian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Belgian Federal Police and the Belgian Ministry of Justice in the field of civilian crisis management.
Since 2009, we have been responsible for the organisation of the Belgian core course for experts to be deployed in missions, the Belgian Generic Training (BGT).
This core course is a unique initiative to promote an integrated and shared learning for experts from different professional backgrounds (civil servants, police officers and external experts) who aim at being deployed in missions by Belgium. This training course therefore constitutes a prerequisite for the secondment in mission by Belgium.

In our training activities, we promote an approach based on:
- Mutual learning between the trainers who have been deployed in the field and the trainees who have a solid background and their own expertise,
- Integrated approach to reproduce the mission environment and prepare the participants to the reality of the field,
- Inclusion of the strategic framework to give the participants a clear overview of the actors in the field and the political decision-making behind a mission,
- Learner-centred and adult-learning approach to make the most out of the experts who follow the training and allow them to express their views,
- Interactive modules and exercise to maximise the learning results and give the participants the chance to implement what they learn.
We actively support and contribute to the Belgian strategy for civilian crisis management and to the development of a European training policy regarding civilian capability for the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions.
We are active in European and international networks promoting a shared approach on the training methods.
